I published my first book today as an indie author, and did a celebratory dance. It was supposed to be a stress-free launch because this is my ‘Reader Magnet’ book, which means I offer it for free if a person signs up for my mailing list. You know, a magnet for readers.
Turns out, it was a lot more work than I expect. Like, a LOT more work.
I won’t go into details, but let me just say that the night before – and the day of – I had eight tabs open on my browser, to monitor all the websites and applications I needed to use. When I went to bed, I lay awake for hours wondering if anything would go wrong (it did), and thinking about ideas for a funny launch video I could put on social media.
The launch is over now, and I’m beat. My automatic mailing system had some gremlins I had to beat into submission, but I got it working. My funny video took longer than expect to film and edit, but I got it working. Amazon looked like it would take a long time to review and approve my book, but I got it working.
All in all, it’s been a great experience, and I can’t wait to do it again!
But first: sleep.
